FAQs

What is the difference between face grain, edge grain, and end grain?

End grain boards are the most durable options, and easiest on your knife. Since the end grain is facing up on the board, the wood fibers act as bristles on a brush. Your knife cuts in between these fibers, allowing the blade and board to stay sharper, longer. An edge grain will have you sharpening your knife more often, but it is still more durable than a face grain. Face grain boards are the softest part of the board, thus leaving more knife marks and require more attention to your knives.

I’m still uncertain what option is best for me?

Do you hold your knives near and dear to your heart? If you are an avid chef and enjoy creating various meals, you want to look at an end grain board (or maybe a few). If you occasionally cook and consider yourself a novice in the kitchen, an edge grain board might be right for you. If you plan to use your cutting board on occasion or as a centerpiece in your home, one of our personalized face grain boards might be the best fit. Still can't decide? Please feel free to contact us and we will try to match you to your new board!

Why does my cutting board look different than the image on your website?

Part of the true uniqueness of owning one of our boards is that no two will every truly be identical. This is because wood is a natural material and each slab tells a different story. They are all different grains, patterns, and even shades. Some walnut pieces, for example, will be lighter in color than others due to their sap content. What remains consistent is our tenacity and detail to each board!

I see a cutting board I like but I wish it was bigger, can you make them different sizes?

Yes we can! The sizes we have online are just our standard/most common sizes. Every kitchen and person is different though, and we are more than happy to customize. You can either reach out to us or fill the custom order form to get a quote started.
